Filipino Sinigang Recipe w/ Pork Ribs | Asian Recipes



Filipino friends, please let me know what you like in your sinigang in the comments!

I got so many request for this recipe, and I am very happy about that because it’s one of my favourite Filipino dishes! I remember the first time having it and thinking “it’s like the Filipino tom yum!” Sinigang is a sour soup, owing its sour flavour from tamarind. With lots of veggies and hearty pork ribs, this is the perfect healthy winter dish.

Nowadays, most people make sinigang using a powdered soup mix, but I make mine completely from scratch and you’ll see that it’s really not any more difficult! Change up with protein if you don’t eat pork, as sinigang can be made with any kind of protein. Change up the veggies, too, if you like!

About Pai:

Pailin “Pai” Chongchitnant is the author of the Hot Thai Kitchen cookbook, co-host of a Canadian TV series One World Kitchen on Gusto TV, and creator and host of the YouTube channel Pailin’s Kitchen.

Pai was born and raised in southern Thailand where she spent much of her “playtime” in the kitchen. She traveled to Canada to study Nutritional Sciences at the University of British Columbia, and was later trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in San Francisco.

    I was craving this dish a lot when I was pregnant with my firstborn! But I had to use 1 pack of that Knorr tamarind seasoning because our tamarind here is mostly unripe or sometimes you can't really find tamarind in the wet market. I saute the onions, garlic, ripe tomatoes first and mash it before adding the meat. I also add lots of sliced white radish. Cook some more Filipino dishes! How about Kare kare? Thanks! 🙂

    Make some kare kare since your thai dont even mistake it as a satay sauce but they are similar but no thai spices at all try it even once it is annatto peanut sauce based oxtail or seafood stew w/ lots of veggies

    Hi,Pailin,,fyi,we use unripe tamarind pods,we boil it and strain it into the soup,,pinch of sugar to balance sourrness,,,you can add daicon radish or ocra,,if its summer season here,,its fresh taste and vegies coolsdown the body,,

  37. Thank you for doing this recipe I love sinigang but I don't want to use the powder package I bought a tamaind in a bottle kind of concentrated juice when i use it I did not like the test it's not sour it was sweet. I did not eat it. Now with how you do it I will definitely make it.

  41. some recipes actually use the tamarind fruit and boil it with the pork and then it's squeezed against the strainer to get the juice oh yeah that's great
